What We Do

At Act4Change Trust, we turn our theory of change into action through five thematic areas. These focus on catalyzing community power, building ecosystems of solidarity, and delivering lasting impact across rural Kenya.

Solidarity-Based Agroecology

We promote farming that restores land and nourishes people by:

  •  Agroforestry – integrating trees with crops and livestock.
  •  Landscape Restoration – reviving soils, water catchments, and biodiversity. Seed Sovereignty – strengthening farmer-managed indigenous seed systems.
  •  Schools as Agroecology Hubs – training patrons and eco-clubs to nurture future food system leaders.
  • Nutrition First – linking food production to diverse, healthy diets.

Impact dimensions: Technical • Environmental • Socio-Cultural • Economic

Gender Transformation & Social Inclusion

We rebalance power in food systems by advancing women’s leadership and engaging men as allies:

  • Feminist Agroecology Schools (FAS): equipping rural women with skills in agroecology, financial inclusion, and leadership.
  • Village Barazas with Male Champions: engaging men to redistribute care work and support women’s decision-making.
  • Youth Pathways: creating opportunities for young women and men in green jobs and community leadership.

Climate Resilience & Green Jobs

We help communities adapt to climate shocks while building dignified rural employment through:

  • Carbon Cookstove Project (GS2457): reducing emissions, protecting forests, and cutting household energy costs.
  • Agroforestry & Water Harvesting: buffering droughts and floods.
  • Green Jobs: expanding enterprises in nurseries, cookstoves, seed systems, and value addition.

Community-Based Natural Resource Management & Peacebuilding

We strengthen community structures to manage shared resources fairly and peacefully:

  • Peace Committees: mediating farmer–pastoralist conflicts.
  • Community Land Committees: securing land rights for marginalized groups.
  • Water & Forest User Groups: protecting natural resources for future generations.
  • Dialogue Platforms: building consensus on grazing, water use, and conservation.
  1. Policy Influence & Ecosystem Building

We amplify grassroots voices in decision-making spaces and connect funders with local action by:

  • Multi-Stakeholder Forums: linking communities, partners, and government actors.
  • Localizing Frameworks: such as the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants (UNDROP).
  • Strengthening Partners: in governance, Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning & Accompaniment (MELA), and advocacy.
  • Bridging Investors: ensuring resources reach grassroots innovation
