This week, with support from Fastenaktion – Action de Carême – Azione Quaresimale, Acts for Change Trust is conducting a hands-on training for team members from five grassroots partner organizations on how to integrate poultry into the agroecology programme. Building on the success of last year’s pilot across nine counties, this training marks an important step toward scaling sustainable poultry rearing practices.

Poultry farming offers a powerful complement to crop cultivation in agroecological systems. It enhances farm biodiversity, improves soil health through nutrient recycling, and diversifies income streams for rural families. Importantly, it is accessible, affordable, and adaptable — smallholders are already innovating by using locally available materials for improved poultry housing, reflecting community-driven solutions.

Our approach

  • Collaborative capacity building, enabling the transfer of vital knowledge on poultry management.
  • Emphasis on low-input, practical techniques tailored to local contexts that strengthen farm resilience to climate variability.
  • Integration with broader agroecology principles — promoting ecological balance, food security, and climate adaptation.
