We began by engaging rights holders—the smallholder farmers living in rural areas of Western Kenya — on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants (UNDROP).

Now, we’re deepening the conversation by engaging duty bearers—county governments, policymakers, and institutions leaders drawn from Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia and Bungoma counties —strengthening their understanding and commitment to farmers’ rights and agroecological transformation.

These sessions have fostered rich dialogue and critical reflection on policies, responsibilities, and opportunities for collaboration towards building equitable and sustainable food systems. Together, we reaffirm our collective responsibility to uphold the rights of smallholder farmers, with agro ecology as the path to resilience, justice, and lasting change.
